Hair And Makeup Variety

This post used to link to a blog in which a girl had posted photos of herself everyday for a few years. The photos illustrated how much her hair and makeup could change her attractiveness. However, the girl asked me to remove the photos, since she decided to remove her project from the internet.

  1. WOW. i heard about something similar but it went with how weight etc affected someone over the years and how long or old they looked.

  2. As a man, which one of her "looks" do you find most appealing? Could you rank them from best (most feminine, pleasant colour scheme, recpetive etc) to the worst (androgynous/masculine, drawn out etc)?

Sorry if this sounds a bit pedantic but it would be great to get a male insight from you on this. :)

  3. She's such a chameleon!

Obviously, some of her looks are not as flattering as the others, but she wears most of them really well.

I find a wide variety of them appealing, and it would depend somewhat on my mood. Besides, I am only one guy, and every guy has different taste.

There is no way I have the time to go through and rank all of the images, but to give you a rough idea, from top left to bottom right, here is how I would rate this subset of the images:

    4, 7.5, 8, 7.5, 4.5
    8.5, 6.5, 7, 7, 8

Keep in mind that these images shown very little of her body, which is a huge part of female attractiveness. If she is in good shape and a nice height with a well-proportioned figure, the 4 on the top left would probably become a 6 or 7. The 8.5 might move up to a 9 or 9.5, expecially if she were well-dressed. She could also move down dramatically if it turned out she was 6'4" or 250 lbs.

  5. Bellita,

I agree. She can be (and in some pictures is) drop-dead gorgeous.

  6. Number 4 is attractive, I could date her, number 6 is passable, all the rest are too ugly to date. Number 1 is bar far the ugliest and number 5 I would honestly think was a guy if I didn't know otherwise.

    True. Thanks for answering! :)

  8. As another male here's my ratings to give you a bit more of an idea:

    5, 7, 5, 4, 4
    9, 6, 4, 4, 5

The top-right one was the hardest to rate, at first glance I rated it much higher, but after looking at the picture for a few seconds I dropped off something like 3 points.

One other note is that most of them would have got a bonus point simply by smiling. The bottom left one already basically includes that though because there is a hint of a smile there.

  9. Another good post

Have you considerEd a less lengthy blog address?

  10. Yes. Once I have the time to get a better site designed I plan on that, but in the meantime I am relying on the content to draw in readers. I figure if the length of the URL or the appearance of the blog is what turns people off, my writing or ideas aren't good enough.

  11. The length of the URL nor the layout/look of the site has any bearing in my opinion; your content is more than worth its weight without any shiny stuff.

  12. Re: URL
I don't know about other visitors, but I've been reading blogs for eight years and it's kind of second nature to me to type the "blogspot" or "wordpress" after the first part of the URL. So I don't think length is a big deal here. It also helps that you're using your actual blog name in the URL. I know a book blogger who used an alternative spelling of her real name in her URL and it had nothing to do with her blog name. Predictably, her blog was hard to find (both the first time and again), even though it was memorable.

    Re: content
I think it's worth reading! :) There's helpful stuff here that I don't think gets mentioned anywhere else. And it's thanks to you that I now know my season, which is a big deal.

    Re: template
This is totally unsolicited advice, but since you brought it up yourself, I don't think it's out of bounds to make an observation . . . The first time I visited your blog, the background put me off a bit because it was so unrelated to your blog description. (Obviously, I kept reading and reconsidered that initial opinion.) Ash blue and birds in silhouette don't "sell" your content as well as another template might. I'm not saying you should switch to something pink and pretty, but I think it helps when the background reflects the content or mission of the blog.

  13. It's so interesting to hear what men think of of various looks (I always expect long hair to win, of course). As a woman, I would break down the pictures like this:

    Top:

1 - Looks like a teenage boy - prob. just woke up. Needs to put on some mascara and comb her hair.
2 - meh. don't like the dye job or anime bangs.
3 - objectively most beautiful! must steal that eyeshadow.
4 - going to a swing dance? bad lighting, lips too bright, hair crunchy. unnatural.
5 - ooo, she looks so pure, almost sainted. reminds me of anne frank. not very sexual, of course.

    Bottom:

1 - I guessed men would like this one best, and I was right. It's the hair.
2 - love this! the earings, scarf, audrey hepburn hair... so classy.
3 - looks like a poet. men, beware!
    4 - punk, scares me.
5 - elfin, coy. If there's a ponytail back there, the hair would be cuter.

I think my takeaway for this post is that you can't go wrong with long hair, pink lips, and soft eye shadow.

  14. Andrew, I don't understand how you're rated her so low in some of the pictures. Sure she's not wearing makeup and hasn't done her hair in some of them, but her face clearly has lovely features with balanced proportions.
Can men really not see past all the styling??

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm curious, would you mind say if you saw your girlfriend without all the styling etc for the first time looking completely different, or quite ugly would you feel put off or cheated? Or as long as she maintains her looks the majority of the time would you not mind?
I am quite good at doing myself up, I make a effort pretty much all the time except when I'm sleeping, I must have a good canvas (I hope) but the difference between hair and makeup to me looks like night and day, and I do worry about that at times.

  16. She's beautiful in all of them.

  17. Though I am a female and this blog is not about MY opinions, I have to say I agree with the other male's votes in that on the top row, she looks the best in the red hair and I find it interesting how in the very next photo, with the same hairstyle, she immediately looks 20 years older due to the brown hair. It helps that the red hair appears to be very natural rather than artificial like is the case with so many blondes who go overboard with bleach.

  18. Of course, I'm just a female, but i don't understand how #1 bottom is the guys favorite. The hair is long, that's all, but it's not a flattering cut, it weighs her down and makes her look ordinary and ditzy. To me she looks at her stunning best in the 2 middle pics and at her worst in #5 top, right after the one all the guys like.

But is that all that matters, having long hair, no matter what style?

  20. Long hair on women looks feminine, that's why.
